Desert Oud
Cardamom and pink pepper open bright, then smoky agarwood, sandalwood and a soft amber trail settle in for the evening. The one that makes a room go quiet.
HABIBI Journal · On men and scent
Why the men people remember never smell like the room, and how a signature is actually chosen.
From the atelier of HABIBI New York · 5 minute read

The elevator is the honest room. No one chose to be there, no one is performing, and for eleven floors the only thing anyone knows about you is how you arrived. Most men arrive the same way: the same three colognes the counter sells to everyone, bright for twenty minutes, gone by lunch. Pleasant. Forgettable. The room forgets them before the doors open.
A few men arrive differently. Nothing loud. Something warm and low that seems to come off the coat rather than the skin, that the woman beside them notices without quite being able to name. She does not say anything. She remembers it. That is the whole difference between being present and being remembered, and it is decided in the first breath.
The fragrances sold at volume are built to offend no one, which is another way of saying they are built to be ignored. Light citrus, clean musk, a top note engineered for the paper blotter and the ten seconds you spend at the counter. They do their work in the opening and have nothing left to say by the afternoon. You smell fine. Fine is what the room forgets.
Presence is not volume. It is the note that is still there at six o’clock.
Agarwood resin forms inside a tree only when the tree is wounded and left to heal for decades. Perfumers have wanted it for a thousand years because of what it does on skin: it does not announce itself and then leave. It settles. It warms with you through the day, smoky and resinous and slightly sweet, so that by the time you are in the meeting, or at the table, or in that elevator, it reads as something that belongs to you rather than something you put on.
At 25% Extrait de Parfum, the strength HABIBI composes at, two sprays in the morning are still speaking in the evening. That is not a claim about power. It is a claim about patience. The scent that gets asked about is almost never the one that hit hardest at nine; it is the one that was still there, quietly, at six.

Here is the part the counter never tells you. A fragrance is not finished when it leaves the bottle. It finishes on you, over hours, with your warmth and your chemistry, and the same oud that reads like polished wood on one man reads like warm leather on another. You cannot learn that from a blotter, and you certainly cannot learn it from a description. You learn it by wearing it to work on a Tuesday and noticing who leans in.
So the men who end up with a signature rarely bought a bottle blind. They wore five, for a week each, and let the week decide. One of the five kept getting asked about. That one became theirs.
The five worth a week each

Each is a different way of being remembered. Wear them one at a time and let the week tell you which one keeps getting asked about.
Cardamom and pink pepper open bright, then smoky agarwood, sandalwood and a soft amber trail settle in for the evening. The one that makes a room go quiet.
Citrus and warm spice over suede and saffron, grounded in oud and amber. Fresh enough for the morning meeting, deep enough for the night.
Golden honey over warm tobacco, smoky oud beneath, a finish of leather and sweet woods. Not for everyone. Exactly the point.
Pink pepper, saffron and green fig open, oud and jasmine hold the centre, sandalwood and musk close it soft. Powerful without ever being loud.
Grapefruit and cardamom over rich leather, saffron and iris, on cedar, vetiver and oud. Structured, clean, quietly expensive.
“I’m at a conference at a hotel for the week. This morning I put Urban Oud on my shirt and jacket and started on my way to the elevator. When the doors closed, the woman next to me took a deep breath, turned to me and said ‘you smell amazing.’ First compliment of the day.”Verified buyer, Urban Oud · May 2026
“Lots of great compliments from other people as well, wanting to know what it is and where to find it.”Verified buyer, Desert Oud
“A soft, yet powerful and dramatic scent. This is now my signature scent, and I love that I don’t smell like everyone else.”Verified buyer, Cashmere Oud
