Habibi fragrances- what, where, how?

Where are HABIBI Fragrances made?

All HABIBI fragrances are made right here in the US at our New Jersey manufacturing site. The expert perfumers we work with are based all across the globe, including Paris, London, Dubai, and New York.

Do HABIBI fragrances contain alcohol?

HABIBI fragrances contain denatured alcohol which is synthetic, non-toxic and inedible. It's a standard ingredient widely used in cosmetics and pharmaceutical applications. Denatured alcohol is 100% permissible to use on the skin.

Each product is masterfully blended by our team of perfumers and bottled in exquisite glass bottles, with handmade packaging in New York. HABIBI fragrances are very long-lasting due to their potent concentration of essential oils. Depending on the application, you can be sure to experience long-wearing sensorial happiness.

What is the fragrance dosage and why does HABIBI last longer than other brands?

HABIBI fragrances are exceptional in their use of very high dosage – all fragrances are a minimum of 25% dosage, and some are even as high as 30% dosage. This means that the perfume you're getting will last longer on the skin, have a stronger aroma, and you will be able to use less overall product.

The way fragrances are categorized is by dosage. In other words, what percentage of liquid consists of the fragrance oil. Within the industry, lighter fragrances that use 1-5% oil are usually called body mist. Eau de cologne can range between 3-8%, while eau de toilette can range anywhere between 5-10%. The stronger fragrances are eau de parfum (anywhere between 8-15%), parfum (15-25%) and attars (usually 100%)

However, because there is no specific industry standard or set legal rules, a brand can produce a product and label it as an eau de parfum when it only contains 8% fragrance oils, or even less. This means that you’re paying a premium price for alcohol and water and not the finest ingredients that actually make perfume smell beautiful.

Are HABIBI fragrances all natural?

Our fragrances include some of the most exclusive notes on the perfume market, such as oud,
jasmine, iris, and sandalwood. These are complex, beautiful ingredients that are expensive, difficult to
source, and originate from all around the world. Many of these notes have been used in perfumery for thousands
of years and help to create some of the most captivating fragrances we know and love.

Synthetics, however, aren’t a bad thing. Ingredient notes like leather and musk are made using
synthetics so that you can have certain types of perfume without cruelty to animals. It also allows the
perfumers to show a wider range of fragrance styles, since many smells cannot be harvested from
nature. Most fruits, for example, don’t yield enough oil to be used in fragrance. Natural materials can
also contain aromatic compounds that can cause irritation to sensitive skin, so master perfumers create synthetics that mimic the scents found in nature while being safe and gentle.

There are also ‘identical to nature’ synthetics, which are the same compounds found in natural environments. For instance, vanillin is one of the
aromatic molecules that naturally occurs in vanilla to give a fresh and distinctive smell. Producing ingredients like this in the lab means that it can be added to fragrance alone or alongside natural vanilla to amplify the scent and make something even more complex and long-lasting.

Finally, using synthetics allows a perfumer to create ‘fantasy accords’. In other words, they utilize their creativity to invent a scent for things that don’t actually have a scent in nature. Perfumery is a highly complex technique that requires the utmost creativity and artistic skillset. It's also a process that requires years of chemistry expertise and regulatory knowledge.

But no matter which ingredients are used in a fragrance, the goal is always to create something that’s both beautiful and safe to spritz onto the skin.

The fragrance should be packed securely so that it doesn't move around inside the box, and to ensure no damage occurs to the product itself.

general fragrance questions

How do I make my fragrance last throughout the day?

The high dosage of HABIBI fragrances means that our perfumes will last for at least eight hours. But here's a top beauty tip help boost the scent: starting with moisturized skin, layer your fragrance on both skin and clothing or hair. Many HABIBI perfumes are also available as a body cream or beard oil, but you can use an unscented lotion if you prefer.

How is a fragrance made?

The process of crafting a new fragrance takes time - usually up to a year. First, the brand directors will create a brief: a description of how they would like the new perfume to smell. Fragrance houses and perfumers will then create something they feel best answers the questions raised in the brief. Who will be wearing this scent? What story should it tell? What ingredients will be included? The perfumers will submit their creations and then once a few top contenders are selected, HABIBI works with the fragrance house to refine the perfume until the final creation is complete. Crafting a new fragrance is an artistic process that requires both the brand and the perfumer work together, collaboratively.

How long does a bottled fragrance last? How do I keep my fragrances in the best possible condition?

Once you've found your perfect HABIBI perfume, you’ll want to protect it from oxidization and/or discoloration. Fragrances last for longer in a cool, dark place and protected from any fluctuations in temperature, humidity, or UV rays.

While the bathroom is often the most common place people tend to keep their fragrance collection, it’s actually the worst! Each HABIBI fragrance is beautifully packaged in a heavyweight box which will protect the bottle from light, so don’t throw this away! A better storage alternate is to keep your favorite fragrances in the refrigerator. This will protect them as well as offering a refreshing way to wear your fragrance on a hot day. If you treat your new fragrance with a little extra care, you can expect it to last for at least a year - and very likely longer.

What are fragrance families?

You’ll see that HABIBI fragrances are categorized by type, or family, such as citrus, woody, floral, etc. Thisrefers to the most prominent notes in a fragrance and helps to give a sense of the overall aroma. Some of these categories are fairly straightforward, while others, such as amber, gourmand, or fougère,are a little more obscure and often come from the names of historical perfumes. HABIBI stocks fragrancesin most of the families, so if you’re not sure which one is right for you, think about everyday scents youalready enjoy - do you prefer rich, seductive jasmine or perhaps a clean, fresh grapefruit? You can also take theHABIBI quiz to see which fragrance best suits your lifestyle and taste.

Why do fragrances smell different on me than on someone else?

So your friend bought Oasis Oud and it smells amazing on her, but then you try it and you’re less than impressed? Not to worry! Skin temperature, pH levels, oils, and even your diet will affect your skin chemistry, which interacts with the fragrance to change the way it smells throughout the day. Every bottle of HABIBI comes with a sample for you to try - simply wear it on your skin for a few days and if it’s not right, you can always exchange your fragrance for something better suited.

Bonus beauty tip: If you do want to wear a fragrance but you know it doesn’t work with your skin chemistry, you can also spritz onto a scarf or piece of clothing - this way, you can enjoy all the scents you love.

Why do I have to pay for samples?

At HABIBI, we can assure you that only the finest ingredients and packaging are used to provide a luxurious shopping experience for all our customers.

With this in mind, it's important to note that our samples are made at a cost and since we are a small business, it's simply not feasible for us to ship out free samples as single items.

However, to ensure that we're offering a fair way for you to sample our fragrances, with each discovery set, we do include a sample fragrance that can be worn several times. This is equal to x6 3ml vials and will allow you to enjoy many days of wear.

Once you've picked your favorite scent, we then provide a $20 coupon code towards your next purchase of a full-size fragrance. It's a win-win!
